During the Apprenticeship - "Jacob took me under his wing without any persuasion and mentored me as if I was his own, offering me advice when I needed it, helping me settle in in the first place and even giving me a kick up the back side when it was necessary. As previously mentioned, discussing specific interview techniques. This gave me the opportunity to practice example questions and how to use this for different job roles that you are applying for.

6) Did you find the interview process easier after we worked together?

Yes, after working together I was given example questions and Jacob helped me to answer these correctly. For a group interview I attended, Jacob taught me how to address myself correctly by helping others to stand out from the rest. 

7) Would you say I went out of my way for you at any point?

Jacob went out of his way to help me on multiple occasions. He did this by going through interview tips including how to properly answer questions. He went out his way to find out what sort of questions I may be asked. Jacob also went out of his way to put a good word in for me on different occasions to the correct people.

9) How can I improve in the future? (Please give me as many as possible. Its very early stages and I want to give everybody the best I can so all feedback helps).

1) How has Jacob’s mentorship helped you develop your electrical knowledge and skills?

Jacob has helped a lot with my electrical knowledge and skills. Any questions I have he has always been happy to answer. He’s always keen for me to understand what I am doing and goes out of his way to give me the extra guidance, so I have a full understanding of jobs.

2) Can you describe a specific time when his guidance made a real difference in your learning process?

A specific time when his guidance has made a big difference in my learning process has been through my apprenticeship. He’s helped me with any questions I’ve had, he takes the time to go through jobs step by step so I have a full understanding of the job and has been very helpful with my end of apprenticeship reports in helping me extend my knowledge and understand the key words and skills that I will require.

3) How has he supported you in understanding and working with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)?

He has supported me a lot with my understanding of PLCs and is always keen to sit and go through programs and the general understanding of PLCs and will help with any questions or queries you have on them.

4)What makes his teaching style effective and easy to understand?

Jacob’s teaching style is very helpful and easy understand due to him breaking down what he’s teaching to make it easier to understand. He uses real life examples to get across his explanations which allows you to process what is being explained easier. He ensures that he makes learning fun and interesting which also makes it easier to understand and engage in the learning more.

5) How has he helped you with report writing and technical documentation?

He has helped me a lot with report writing and technical documentation. He has answered questions that I have asked about and helped to extend my knowledge by going through new information and skills that I might not have thought about. He has helped a lot towards understanding technical documents and why they are used and how they are completed which has helped broaden my knowledge about the different documentation in industry.

6) What key skills or knowledge have you gained that you wouldn’t have without his mentorship?

A skill that he has taught me that has helped a lot is try get stuck into jobs even if its something out your comfort zone. Having this mentality that he has suggested has helped with my understanding and will improve my skills and has made me more confident in carrying out jobs.

7) How does he go above and beyond in supporting your apprenticeship journey?

He always goes out his way to help with the understanding of tasks and how the whole process works. He will ensure you have a full understanding of what he is explaining before moving on and is always happy to sit with you if you have any queries and concerns.

8) How has his mentorship prepared you for real-world engineering challenges?

His mentorship has helped me greatly to feel confident in going into real – world engineering challenges. Not only does he explain things well he also pushes you to engage in tasks to extend your understanding and skills. I feel more prepared to go into engineering and complete jobs alone knowing I have had good mentoring and been explained all aspects of the different jobs.

9) What would you say to other apprentices considering his guidance?

Definitely take it! He’s always made learning with him fun, he’s always keen for you to get stuck in and learn and will help with any queries and questions that you have.

10) How has your confidence grown in electrical engineering since working with him?

My confidence has massively grown since working with Jacob. I feel more confident in jobs and in asking questions knowing I have him to answer them and make sure that I have a full understanding. I would 100% recommend him for anyone thinking about a career in electrical engineering as he makes learning fun and easier and is always there to help you out.
